ABB To Deliver Integrated Vessel System for New Van Oord Dredges

ABB, a manufacturer of power grids, electrification products, industrial automation and robotics and motion, has received an order from Van Oord to deliver integrated electrical power, automation, control and navigation packages for two 10,500 cubic meter (13,733 cubic yard), dual-fuel trailing suction hopper dredges. The dredges are being built by Keppel Offshore & Marine in Singapore and are due for delivery in 2021.

ABB’s scope of supply includes generators, main switchboards, distribution switchboards, propulsion drives with associated control systems and transformers. A Power Management System, an Alarm Management System and a Vessel Management system based on ABB Ability™ System 800xA will also be included.

ABB will deliver a complete bridge solution to include custom-designed ergonomic consoles, a remote-control system, pilot chairs and a navigation system that will integrate the Synapsis NX INS bridge and navigation technology from Rayetheon Anschutz. The system includes multifunctional workstations, autopilot and track control system, radars, navigation sensors and automation and control.

According to ABB, the ABB Ability™ Remote Diagnostic Services for Marine enable remote equipment monitoring, while data analytics will allow predictive maintenance, planned service interventions or remote technical support of the new vessels, supported from seven existing shore-based ABB Marine & Ports’ Collaborative Operations Centers.
