CIRIA Event To Explore Management of Contaminated Sediments

CIRIA, the construction industry research and information association, is hosting an event to explore how contaminated sediments should be managed in the United Kingdom and to highlight the new CIRIA report C781, “Contaminated Sediments: A Guide for Risk Assessment and Management.” Specifically, the meeting will explore areas where the industry can improve to prevent contaminated sediments from leaching from navigation dredging, harbor and docks projects, and from coastal landfills. The event will be held April 10, at the CIRIA office in Griffin Court, London, England.

The agenda includes:

·         Contaminated sediments—how big is the program and why bother? Presented by Jonathan Atkinson, EA;

·         Managing the risk for contaminated sediments in the UK. Presented by Joanne Kwan, CIRIA and Ian Dennis, Royal HaskoningDHV;

·         Demonstration field trial for stabilization of contaminated sediments in Gothenburg Port. Presented by Pete Seymour, Ecocern Materials Ltd.;

CIRIA recommends the event for regulators, owners and managers of rivers, inland waterways, and tidal waters, engineers and environmental consultants and contractors, environmental and geotechnical site investigation contractors and laboratories.
