Public Meeting on Dredged Material Management in Winona, Minnesota

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Paul District is hosting a public meeting on January 31 to gather public input into its planning efforts to manage Mississippi River dredged material in Winona, Minnesota. The meeting is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Winona County History Center, 160 Johnson Street, Winona, Minnesota.

The meeting will focus on commercial and recreational navigation trends, channel maintenance and dredged material management planning, to include a brief discussion regarding the land acquisition process.

The Corps is revising its dredged material management plan for Mississippi River Pool 6, which encompasses Winona. The final plan will identify temporary and permanent placement locations for dredged material. Similar plans are being prepared in Pools 4 and 5. The plans, once complete, provide the path forward to continue maintaining the 9-foot navigation channel for the next 20 years, and possibly longer. An environmental assessment will be prepared as a part of each plan.
