Van Oord Wins Safety Award

Van Oord’s Debris Removal Platform has won the 2018 International Association of Dredging Contractors (IADC) Safety Award that recognizes companies demonstrating diligence in safety awareness within their profession. Van Oord was the winner among eight nominees.

When the suction pipe from a dredge is brought back onboard, the debris that has collected in the draghead falls onto the deck. Previously, the debris was manually removed risking slips and trips of those conducting the removal. Van Oord developed an automated system where a hydraulically driven bulldozer blade pushes the debris off the deck and back into the water. Through automation the risk to personal injury is reduced.
