Manson Awarded Duval County Contract
Manson Construction Company was awarded a $15,682,725 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District to restore eroded beaches and dunes in Duval County. The project will remove approximately 850,000 cubic yards of sand for placement on close to 8 miles of eroded beaches including Jacksonville, Neptune and Atlantic beaches. Manson has 330 days to complete the work but is expected to finish sometime this winter.
Due to Hurricane Irma the project is 100 percent federally funded under the Flood Control and Coastal Emergency Act and the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018. The Corps Jacksonville District has been allocated more than $4 billion for hurricane recovery including money for investment in long-term recovery efforts in Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Funding will go toward 14 studies and 19 projects to help reduce flood risk to communities damaged by storms.
As part of this restoration project, the City of Jacksonville provided an additional $1.7 million to repair existing dunes, construct new dunes and conduct vegetation repairs and plantings.
Since 1980, Duval County has undergone six major beach renourishments, as well as periodic placement of dredged sand. Most of these projects are funded by the City of Jacksonville, Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Duval County.
