Simwave Opens Maritime Training Center in Barendrecht

On April 19, Simwave officially opened its 5,000-square-meter (16,404-square-foot) maritime training center in Barendrecht. The 300 guests took a behind the scenes look at the new location, which houses more than 50 simulators.

The ‘site acceptance test’ was completed on January 29 in collaboration with the supplier of the simulators, Norwegian company Kongsberg Digital. Since then, the center has been operational with many training courses being organized for customers such as Genting Hong Kong, Crystal River Cruises and Viking Cruises.

Simwave courses can be run on one of the 59 simulators or they can be linked to provide multi-vessel simulations. The ‘full mission’ simulators have a replica of an entire bridge of a ship almost at full scale, with 360-degree projection as support. The machine room replica comprises seven simulators, which occupy two floors of the new building.

Netherlands-based Simwave operates maritime simulation training centers worldwide that are one-stop shops for certified maritime training, pilot training, assessment and applied research.
