Corps of Engineers to Hold Workshops on Calumet Harbor Dredge Disposal

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Chicago District and City of Chicago are holding two workshops on the Calumet Harbor and River/Chicago Area Waterway System Dredged Material Management Study. The events will be held April 28 at Rowan Park, 11546 South Avenue L in Chicago from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and on April 30 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Chicago Public Library Vodak East Side Branch, 3710 E. 106th Street.

The study being discussed is for the purpose of identifying a new location for safe placement and management of dredged materials that are collected during maintenance of the Calumet Harbor and River. The existing disposal area on the lakefront will be closed soon and an alternative is needed.

Attendees can talk with experts and visit booths on the fields of dredging, sediment, facility operation, aquatic ecosystem restoration, planning processes and more. Those who are unable to attend may learn more and vote for their preferred disposal site here.
