Corps Taking Comments on Gulf Intracoastal Waterway Dredging Plan

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District is accepting public comments on the operations and maintenance dredging and placement of dredged material of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW). The Corps is preparing a Dredge Readiness and Operation Plan (DROP) for the GIWW that will outline maintenance dredging priorities over the next 10 to 15 years. Coastal changes have resulted in shoaling and sediment deposits in the waterway that impede safe navigation. Preparations are also being made for the upcoming maintenance dredging of the GIWW near Venice, Florida, which would include a 5-mile stretch of the GIWW south of the Venice Inlet and areas within the inlet.

Anyone interested in or impacted by the proposed DROP can submit comments until February 16 to:

Comments will be incorporated into the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) assessments.
