International Dredging Review
MENUMENU

Damen Shipyards Group of The Netherlands completed a three-week maintenance project on the 223-meter (731 feet) suction hopper dredge Leiv Eiriksson. Previous to its maintenance work the dredge worked for 18 months on a land reclamation project in Nigeria.

One of the largest dredges in the world the Leiv Eiriksson has a hopper volume of 46000 cubic meters (60166 cubic yards) and a DWT of 78500 tons. Work on the dredge included replacing the 1700 milimeter (66 inch) discharge lines paint and new power cables for the suction arms. Crews from the shipyard also assisted sub-contractors with repairs to the steering gear valves and propulsion and thruster.

The Jan de Nul Group owns the Leiv Eiriksson and is a frequent customer of Damen Shipyards including projects on its multi-purpose vessel Isaac Newton and on the trailing suction hopper dredge Taccola.

Damen Shipyards Group is a worldwide company operating 33 shipbuilding and repair yards that employ more than 9000 people. Each year Damen delivers about 180 vessels to customers throughout the world.
