CORPS REPLENISHES LONG ISLAND BEACHES

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company’s trailing suction hopper dredge Liberty Island was working off Long Beach Island in New Jersey in July. The 315-foot-long dredge is executing part of a $142 beach replenishment project for the Corps of Engineers. Work began last May and after a winter hiatus continued in April of this year.

The beach replenishment was underway when Hurricane Sandy hit but the beach didn’t sustain as much damage as was feared. At times GLDD’s Dodge Island and Padre Island have also worked on the project.

Other beaches including Holgate North Beach and Loveladies in Long Beach Township will be dredged and replenished.
