Spanish Yard to Build Van Oord Two Hopper Dredges

Van Oord ordered two 17000-cubic-meter trailing suction hopper dredges from Spanish Construcciones Navales del Norte S.L. LaNaval. The company will build the dredges at its yard in Billbao Spain. Both vessels will be delivered in 2017.

The order is part of Van Oord’s replacement program for older trailing suction hopper dredges. The dredge will have a length of 158 meters (518.3 feet) and a width of 36 meters (118 feet). The vessels will be equipped with two suction pipes with submerged e-driven dredge pumps two shore discharge dredge pumps six bottom doors and a total installed power of 23680 kW. They will have accommodation for a crew of 38.

The energy efficient vessel includes a design that reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. It will obtain a Green Passport and Clean
