Ocean Signal Launches Small Powerful PLB

Ocean Signal has launched its rescueME PLB1 (personal locator beacon).

The rescueME PLB1 is 30 percent smaller than other PLBs fits on any life jacket and is easily activated by one hand. The operator need only extend the antenna flip up the protective cover and press the button. The retractable antenna and flip-up cover are designed to prevent inadvertent use.

When activated the rescueME PLB1 will transmit accurate position data from its 66-channel GPS for a minimum of 24 hours while the integrated strobe light ensures maximum visibility.

Any safety product is only as good as its battery capabilities and Ocean Signal has ensured that all of its safety products exceed statutory requirements for battery life. Following in this tradition the rescueME PLB1 provides an incredible seven-year battery life further supported by a seven-year warranty.Even after more than 24 hours of continuous operation and when the battery power is insufficient to transmit the satellite signal the PLB1’s homing beacon and strobe light will continue to operate. This high-intensity strobe light features a molded lens to enhance the visibility of its efficient LED and gives a powerful one candela light emission.

Self-test of the PLB1 can be carried out with a simple button press and in those situations where suitable test equipment is available the antenna is easily extended for the duration of the test and can then be retracted using the winding mechanism on the top of the unit.

The most reliable place to carry a PLB at sea is fitted to the life jacket but in situations where this is not possible a flotation lanyard is provided.

In January Ocean Signal announced a new partnership with inflatable life jacket manufacturer International Safety Products (ISP). It will handle all UK distribution for Ocean Signal with a key responsibilty for increasing sales and strengthening the UK market.

The latest announcement by Ocean Signal follows a December deal with True Heading as its distributor for Sweden and the summer appointment of Lusty and Blundell as its distributor for New Zealand.

Safety and communication products from Ocean Signal meet or exceed international technical and safety standards providing maritime users with reliable products. Ocean Signal is headquartered in Margate in Southeast Kent UK. Its website is www.oceansignal.com.
