Anchor QEA has selected 10 graduate students for its annual scholarship program. The program was established in 1998 to promote and help support graduate students majoring in geology planning and land use landscape architecture fisheries and coastal geotechnical or environmental engineering—all with an aquatic or waterfront emphasis.
This year’s recipients are Danielle Alexander of University of Virginia; Violet Compton of San Diego State University; Amy Dale of Carnegie Mellon University; Kelly Granberg of the University of Illinois-Chicago; Iris Kemp of the University of Washington; Alejandro Martinez of Georgia Institute of Technology; Aurore Mercelat of the University of Texas; Ijeoma Nzewi of Virginia Polytechnic Institute; and Courtney Thomas of the University of Texas.
These masters and doctoral candidates focus their studies on a wide range of scientific and engineering topics including stormwater management source investigation effects of nanoparticles on the environment juvenile salmon in situ geotechnical testing water treatment technologies fate and transport of contaminants in sediment caps and effects of compounds released from green algae.
The awards are given out annually to graduate students and scholarships range from $500 to $5000. To date the firm has awarded more than $85000 to 101 students at 45 different universities across the country.
Anchor QEA focuses on aquatic-based remediation waterfront development natural resources environmental planning and engineering habitat restoration and contaminated sediment management at all phases of project development from site investigation and initial planning through construction.
Applications for the 2013 graduate scholarship program are available on the Anchor QEA website and are due in November. Candidates must be graduate students at U.S. institutions with a major in environmental engineering environmental science or a related field.
