WEDA Award Raises Safety Awareness

The Western Dredging Association (WEDA) Board of Directors at its 2008 Board of Directors Meeting authorized the creation of the WEDA Annual Safety Award to be given to a WEDA member in good standing operating in the organization’s jurisdiction throughout the Western Hemisphere.

Nominees can be dredging contractors companies consultants groups crews or government entities or individuals who have demonstrated a major accomplishment to promote the WEDA Safety Commission objective – to raise the awareness of safety in the dredging workplace.

Nominees must have had no fatalities during the 12 month period prior to the presentation of the award; must indicate a reduction in lost time accidents personal injuries or property damage; must demonstrate the development implementation and effectiveness of a successful Safety Management System and sustaining such reduction in incidents during the 12 month period prior to the presentation of the award; and submit a narrative on the nominee’s contribution to raising safety awareness and improving safety in dredging for the worker and the workplace.
