By order of Nord Stream Aqua Vision performed environmental monitoring work during dredging activities at the gas pipe line location in German waters southeast of the island of Rügen. They used their ViSea Plume Detection Toolbox to measure the spread of sediment with an ADCP at the site of a backhoe dredge and a hopper dredge. Aqua Vision performed the monitoring from the vessel MV Supplier of Nother Offshore Services. Dredging contractors for this segment of the underwater gas pipeline are Boskalis (Netherlands) and Rohde-Nielson (Denmark).

DUTCH SAND ENGINE
Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. and Van Oord have been awarded a joint venture contract by the Dutch Directorate General for Public Works and Water Management to reinforce part of the coastline in the province of Zuid-Holland by creating a ‘sand engine’. The total value of the contract is € 50 million for the Van Oord-Boskalis consortium.
The sand engine involves depositing 21.5 million cubic meters of sand in the shape of a hook extending from the coast near Ter Heijde. The sand will be spread along the provincial coastline by the natural motion of wind waves and currents. This principle of building with nature will reinforce the coastline in a new and natural way.
