International Dredging Review

Limitless LLC Dubai’s state-owned developer has received proposals from 10 earth-moving contractors including dredging contractors for their $61 billion project to build a 75-kilometer canal and an extensive waterfront development.

Named the Arabian Canal the waterway will flow inland from Dubai Waterfront in Jebel Ali and pass to the east of the Dubai World Central development before turning back towards the Palm Jumeirah. It will be up to 150 meters wide six meters deep and cost approximately $11 billion. The project includes a US$50 billion 20000 hectare canal-side city.

The project will be split into 10 contracts. The first contract involves excavating an eight-kilometer stretch of the waterway at the northern end of the inland section of the canal.

As of July 13 1.5 million cubic meters of material had been excavated from the canal site. A total of one billion cubic meters of excavated material from the canal will be used to create new landscapes along the canal including mountains up to 200 meters high providing views of the waterway and creating new land on which to build hillside villages.

Saeed Ahmed Saeed CEO of Limitless said: |!|The world is watching as the Arabian Canal takes shape.
