International Dredging Review

The Mining Reclamation and Dredging Committee of the National Stone Sand and Gravel Association is sponsoring a dredging seminar on Sunday June 3 through Tuesday June 5 at the Hilton Omaha Nebraska.

The seminar is designed to meet the needs of aggregate producers who use dredges or have an interest in using dredges in the future. It will include educational seminars plant tours and manufacturer’s exhibits to provide information useful to both novice and experienced dredgers.

Plant operators foremen engineers superintendents supervisors and all others who are involved in or interested in being involved in dredging aggregates are urged to attend.

The program will begin with a welcome reception on Sunday June 3 at 5:30 p.m.

The Monday session will begin with an orientation breakfast for new members and first timers and a continental breakfast in the exhibit hall for “old timers”. The opening session will include talks on: Dredge Safety in the Aggregates Industry Mission Critical Safety Principles and Behaviors; Geology and Dredging; and case studies and previews of tours scheduled for the Western Sand and Gravel Ashland Nebraska operation and the Mallard Sand and Gravel Valley Nebraska operation.

Breakout sessions at 10:30 a.m. on Monday June 4 will give attendees a choice of the following three talks:

Honey I Sunk The Dredge: Underwater Salvage And Repairs On Dredges; Everything You Wanted to Know About Pumping But Were Afraid to Ask by Jeff Boone Metso Minerals – Thomas Pumps Division; and How to Spec. a Dredge: Matching the Application to the Right Equipment and Considering the Cost Alternatives by William Wetta Dredging Supply Company.

A breakout session on Monday afternoon will give a choice of Basics of Mechanical Dredging by Chris Nelson of Rohr; Moving a Dredge: Practices to Move a Dredge Short and Long Distances. Moving Various Sizes of Dredges by Steve Hatfield of Cornejo Materials; and Preventing Breakdowns with Proper Dredge Maintenance Strategies by Rick Parton Sahara Sand Silvi Companies.

Monday afternoon sessions give a choice of Dealing with Oil Spills: What To Do How to Clean Up; Automation Products Specifically for Dredging by Jay Wise of Kruse Controls; and a presentation on Fuel Alternatives.

A Dredging Roundtable is scheduled for Monday at 3:45.

Tuesday begins with a New Products session from 7:30 to 8:30 where manufacturers have 10-minute slots to present new products to the group.

The field trip to Mallard Sand and Gravel and Western Sand and Gravel is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
