Royal Boskalis Westminster nv has won a dredging contract for the construction of a steel plant in Sepetiba Brazil.
The contract was awarded by ThyssenKrupp CSA Companhia Siderúrgica which is a joint venture of German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp Steel AG and Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) the largest diversified mining company in the Americas and the largest producer of iron ore and pellets in the world.
The project will be carried out in a joint venture with Dredging International nv. The work will be done in approximately 20 months finishing in May 2008.
The contract value for Boskalis is approximately €75 million.
The contract involves dredging for an export harbor as well as the reclamation of the land on which the plant will be built. The total work volume is approximately 10 million cubic meters of soil.
The equipment to be deployed for the job includes a large cutter suction dredge boosters and an environmental cutter suction dredge.
