E. Hunter Harrison president and chief executive officer of CN (Canadian National Railway Company) will deliver the keynote address at this year’s Halifax Port Days on Friday September 15 2006.

He will speak about the importance of the partnership between CN and Halifax as well as CN’s vital links between the Port of Halifax and markets throughout North America.

A veteran railroader Harrison has held a succession of senior management positions at major North American railroads. He developed the concept of scheduled service for rail freight shipments and established an aggressive operating plan at CN producing the rail industry’s best operating ratio and on-time performance.

He is a member of the North American Competitiveness Council whose mandate is to provide governments with recommendations on broad policy issues such as border facilitation and regulation as well as the competitiveness of key sectors of the economy including automotive transportation manufacturing and services.

Harrison is also a member of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives and was named North America’s Railroader of the Year by Railway Age magazine in 2002.

The Halifax Port Authority (HPA) is a government business enterprise mandated by the Canadian Federal Ministry of Transport. The HPA is a catalyst for the local regional and national economies and has a mandate to be financially viable. The Port of Halifax has an annual income impact of almost $700 million and an employment impact of more than 9000 direct and indirect jobs.

The Canadian National Railway Company spans Canada and mid-America from the Atlantic and Pacific oceans to the Gulf of Mexico serving the ports of Vancouver Prince Rupert B.C.
