Isaac “Ike” Freeman Carter Jr. died of cancer on Wednesday January 15. He was 75.

Mr. Carter was a U.S. Navy veteran and president and CEO of Arkansas Valley Dredging Co. Inc. Carter Construction Company Inc. Carter Oil Company and Pit Stop Inc. a chain of convenience stores all located in Benton Arkansas. Two other companies River Equipment Company and a quarry operation are dormant.

He was the past president of the Arkansas Oil Marketers Association.

Mr. Carter was in the dredging business for 50 years and performed marine contracting jobs for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and private entities in Arkansas Oklahoma Mississippi Louisiana Tennessee Georgia and Florida.

He established the Ike Carter Trust of which his wife Peggy S. Carter is trustee to continue operation of the businesses after his death.

He is survived by his wife Peggy Sue Carter of Little Rock; his son Ike Carter III of Benton Arkansas; a daughter Susan Carter Jester of Benton; a sister stepson stepdaughter three grandchildren four great-grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren.

He was buried on Saturday January 18 2003 at Huie Cemetery in Choctaw Arkansas.
