The European Marine Sand and Gravel Group (EMSAGG)will hold a conference on marine sand and gravel extraction in Delft the Netherlands on Thursday and Friday February 20 and 21 2003. The program will include a day of technical presentations and a site visit to Hanson Aggregates Nederland N V.

The event is sponsored by BMAPA Dekker Zanbaggerbedrijf BV GSI Ballast Nedam Bulk Grondstoffen Stichting Zand and CIRIA (Construction Industry Research and Information Association.)

The technical presentation on the 20th will begin with a welcome from Daniel J. Leggett chairman of EMSAGG followed by 19 15-minute presentations on the topics of Markets and Materials Resource Exploration and Development Research and Monitoring Technology and Data Management and Legislative and Environmental.

At Hanson Aggregates on February 21 attendees will tour Europe’s largest and newest marine sand and gravel processing plant outside the United Kingdom. The plant produces 1.3 million metric tons per year working 24 hours a day five days a week in three shifts. The wharf is supplied by Hanson’s two largest aggregate dredges the Arco Dijk with a capacity of 8300 metric tons and the Arco Humber with a capacity of 8000 metric tons.

The site visit will include a tour of the site and its processing operations. Hanson plans to have a ship available for the tour but this is not guaranteed.
