Weeks Marine has purchased three incomplete cutterhead dredges at auction. The 28-inch dredges were being built by Ellicott Machine Corporation for the government of Thailand who defaulted on payment causing a secure creditor to take possession of and sell the vessels.
Weeks has a large inventory of equipment that is for sale and lease in addition to the equipment in use in their dredging and marine construction activities said Brion Lindholm of the Weeks Covington Louisiana office. The company will likely finish building the dredges and then sell them said Lindholm.
The dredges are Model 6870S Super Dragon models with a capacity of 2880 cubic yards per hour of medium sand or silt discharged up to 7400 feet. They meet ABS Coastal Service for Non-self Propelled Vessels. The original sale price was $13 million each but Lindholm did not reveal what Weeks paid for them at the auction which was held in July.
