Jan De Nul Reports Major Contracts

Belgian dredging contractor Jan De Nul reports contracts to install offshore pipelines for a total value of US$130 million. The contracts involve three sections of the gas pipeline from Indonesia to Singapore. Jan De Nul is the prime contractor. The major operation in the contract will be trench dredging in hard soil and more than two million tons of rock dumping for pipeline protection The work also includes provision of line pipe and coating procured from Europipe and pipeline installation subcontracted to Global Industries.

Jan De Nul has also received a contract for seabed presweeping for Allseas in front of the pipelay vessel Solitaire in the Irish Sea and landfall works in Qatar and Saudi Arabia for Mc Dermott. The company is also involved in the largest offshore windmill park in Denmark where scour protection around the windmill foundations was placed with the with the rockdump vessel Pompeii.

Ballast Ham Doing Shoreham Beach Renourishment

Ballast Ham Dredging has been awarded the beach reclamation project in Shoreham England for the British Environmental Agency in cooperation with Arron District Council. Shoreham is on the southeast coast in Sussex County.

The E25 million project started on August 19 and is scheduled for completion in August 2005. It involves construction of 22 rock groins and the recharge of the beach dredging 100000 cubic meters of gravel using the dredge HAM 317. Construction of the groins each 60 to 70 meters long will require 41000 tons of rock.

Boskalis Will Enlarge Swedish Channels

Royal Boskalis Westminster nv has won an order for widening and deepening the entrance channels to the ports of Gothenburg Sweden. The contract value exceeds E30 million. The client is the Swedish Maritime Organization. The project named “’Safer Fairways to Gothenburg” will start in December 2002 and will be completed around February 2004.

The work consists of two phases. Phase 1 will widen and deepen the ‘Torshamnschannel’ and phase 2 will widen and deepen the ‘Böttöleden’ fairway. Hopper dredges will remove about 10 million cubic meters of clay. About another 400000 cubic meters of rock will be drilled blasted and dredged.

The project is expected to increase the capacity and safety of the shipping channels. In another contract the ‘Skandiaharbor’ will be altered in order to accommodate larger ships and container cranes.
