Specifically the project consists of deepening the existing 40 feet below MLW Federal Navigation Channel System to a depth of 47 feet below MLW. The project area consists of two (northern and southern) channels. The northern channel is approximately 400 feet wide and 12600 feet long and the southern channel is 400 feet wide and 10200 feet long. The west end of the project limit begins at approximately 4000 feet east of the Bayonne Bridge. The majority of the work consists of dredging and disposal of non-rock materials. All non-rock materials dredged from the site will be disposed at the HARS. The work involves the use of marine plant such as a clamshell dredge with 18 CY rock bucket an excavator dredge with a 12 CY bucket drilling and sampling equipment and barges and tug boats. MAINTENANCE DREDGING FOR VARIOUS PROJECTS IN THE NEW YORK DISTRICT. Bid opening February 28 2001. This is a sources sought synopsis for maintenance dredging for various projects over $5 million for the New York District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The work consists of maintenance dredging with the disposal of the dredged material at a suitable upland placement site(s) to be provided by the contractor. The purpose of the proposed dredging is to maintain the authorized project dimensions thereby assuring safe economical use of Federal navigation channels by shipping interests. Placement site: The dredged material will be transported by contractor-identified means to a suitable upland placement site(s) furnished by the contractor. The dredged material will be required to meet all federal state and local criteria required for the site selected. All necessary permits required for the dredged material placement will be provided by the contractor. Any sampling and testing required for obtaining permits required for dredged material placement will be provided by the contractor. Environmental/regulatory compliance: Permits or regulatory approvals that will be provided by the contractor include placement site permits as applicable and others as related to transportation processing and placement of the dredged material or any other aspects of the contractor’s proposed disposition of the dredged material. These approvals include but are not limited to: water quality certificates (WQC) in accordance with Section 401 of the Clean Water Act coastal zone management (CZM) consistency determinations and state agreement pursuant to Section 307 of the Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972 as amended for activities conducted in a state which has a federally approved Coastal Zone Management program. WQC and CZM permits related to the dredging (as opposed to dredged material disposition) will be provided by the New York District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. RFI No. 01-1. REQUEST FOR INFORMATION MIAMI RIVER PROJECT. The Jacksonville District of the US Army Corps of Engineers is planning a procurement to perform maintenance dredging of the Miami River. Work entails dredging the Miami River to restore the navigation project to its authorized dimensions. The federal channel is approximately 5.5 miles long 15 feet deep and the width varies from 150 feet at lower end to 90 feet at upper end. Approximately 500000 cubic yards of material will need to be dredged and disposed of. The project was built in the 1930’s and has never been maintained. The sediments in the river are contaminated with predominately heavy metals and are not eligible for ocean disposal. Therefore contaminated sediments must be disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner. Approximately eight acres of land are available and can be used as a temporary disposal site. The temporary disposal area is located one block from the north bank of the river near the upstream end. If the available land is used as a disposal site the contractor will be responsible for development of the site as a disposal area odor control during use and for returning the site to pre-existing condition. At this time the government sees two contractual alternates: (1) design a temporary disposal area on the site mentioned above and direct the contractor to use the site for temporary storage and find its own permanent disposal site or (2) leave disposal means and methods entirely up to the contractor. The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is to seek industry input regarding these alternatives or other possible alternatives. Request industry submit recommendations concerning means and methods to perform the work in an environmentally acceptable and economically feasible manner. Since information submitted in response to the RFI may be used in the Government’s specifications and made available to all competitors DO NOT SUBMIT PROPRIETARY AND / OR BUSINESS CONFIDENTIAL DATA. However if you believe that given the opportunity you could propose an acceptable alternative in response to a Request for Proposals that permitted alternative methods please let us know. A market survey is being conducted to determine if there are qualified firms interested in a proposed cost-reimbursement type contract for the construction of the Olmsted Dam on the Ohio River near Olmsted Illinois at river mile 964.4. Construction of the dam includes three major segments: a tainter-gated regulatory dam section composed of concrete segments with five 110-foot wide by 37-foot high tainter gates; a 1400-foot wide navigable pass section with concrete segments and 140 boat-operated wickets; and a fixed weir extending to the Kentucky bank.
