Dredge the Federal Channel from deep water in Broad Sound into the Saugus River to a point upstream of the Western Avenue Bridge. Two anchorages will also be dredged. Approximately 90000 cubic yards of material will be removed using a hydraulic dredge and placed in a 13 acre diked disposal cell to be constructed on the RESCO landfill located about 3500 feet from the river. The maximum distance to which material will have to be transported hydraulically will not exceed 3.5 miles. A four acre mitigation area will be constructed at the I-95 embankment to create an intertidal habitat. Cost estimate $1 million to $5 million. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers intends to procure beach replenishment at Coney Island New York. The project consists of the construction of a stone revetment adjacent to the West 37th Street Groin in the Sea Gate community at Coney Island New York. The revetment will be constructed of several sizes of stone and involve the possible placement of a geo-textile. The Corps of Engineers criteria for stone placement and geo-textile placement will be followed. The project also consists of dredging of sand immediately offshore of the Gravesend Bay side of the Sea Gate Community and the placement of the sand along the Atlantic shore of the Sea Gate Community adjacent to the west side of the West 37th Street groin. This segment of the Dade County Beach Erosion Control Project is being modified to have a widened beach berm and an offshore breakwater. The Base Bid area to be nourished is located at Sunny Isles and Golden Beach DNR-6 to DNR-19 (650000 cubic yards). The Optional Bid area to be nourished is approximately 2500 feet of the 63rd Street area of Miami Beach (300000 cubic yards). It will have a 120-foot berm width from the Erosion Control Line (ECL) at EL 9 MLW with a foreshore slope of 1 vertical on 20 horizontal. Rocks will not be separated from the sand on the beach. Work also includes the construction of two 375-foot offshore breakwaters 250 feet apart at the north end of Sunny Isles. The breakwater will lie approximately 500 feet from the seawall in eight to 11 feet of water based on a mean low water datum. The breakwater will be a segmented rubble mound structure using 3.5- to 6.5-ton armor stone on 12-inch marine mattress and filter fabric. The beach at Sunny Isles will be used for deployment. Protection of the environment especially the existing reef system is of paramount importance. The contractor’s operations will have to be carried out in accordance with permit requirements. It is anticipated that this project may be constructed during the turtle-nesting season and precautions will have to be taken.
