WEEKS MARINE AWARDED CONTRACT FOR HOUSTON SHIP CHANNEL; PORT INCREASES FUNDING FOR MAINTENANCE

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded a $15692500 contract to Weeks Marine Inc. for maintenance dredging of the Houston Ship Channel Redfish Reef to Morgan’s Point.

The contractor will remove approximately 2.3 million cubic yards of shoal material from the channels using a hydraulic pipeline dredge. Work will begin in the highest shoaling areas and material from the project will be placed in the Mid-Bay Dredged Material Placement Area. The work is 100 percent federally funded and slated to begin in September.

On August 17 the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority approved a $1.5 million increase in funding for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers maintenance dredging project in a portion of the Bayport Ship Channel.
