Land Scarcity in Asia to be Addressed in Singapore

Dredging & Land Reclamation Asia will be held October 26 and 27 in the Amara Hotel Singapore.

As countries in the region such as Hong Kong and Singapore face land scarcity issues authorities are investing in dredging and reclamation projects worth billions of dollars. The conference will include sessions on tapping land reclamation business opportunities. There will be sessions on technologies and techniques to overcome complex dredging and reclamation projects; out-of-the-box dredging and reclamation tools used globally; and short- and long-term climate implications. The organizer is IQPC Worldwide.

CEDA and IADC to Present Training Course

The Central Dredging Association and the International Association of Dredging Companies are planning their annual training course on November 22 and 23 at the Ports Training Institute in Casablanca Morocco. The theme of the course is “Environmental Aspects of Dredging.”
The course was developed by the Central Dredging Association (CEDA) and the International Association of Dredging Companies (IADC) and will be presented for the first time in Africa in November this year.

Dredging projects across Africa are increasingly subject to environmental scrutiny and the course will present means to gain understanding of the various issues and up-to-date approaches to planning and executing dredging projects in an environmentally responsible manner.

The course is based on the CEDA–IADC book published by Taylor and Francis in 2008 of the same title. With contributions from many experts researchers and professionals and edited by Nick Bray the book and the training course treat all aspects of the interaction of environment and dredging including the assessment of design effects process effects sampling and testing and dredged material management. New pertinent case studies are also presented. The course reflects recent changes in international and regional legislation and the most up-to-date industry advances.

The lectures will be given by Gerard van Raalte (Hydronamic the Netherlands) and Pol Hakstege (Ministry of Transport Public Works and Water Management Centre for Public Works Department Hydraulic Engineering and Environment the Netherlands) – both specialists with broad experience both with dredging projects and training.

During the workshops participants work in small groups on case studies based on real projects giving them the opportunity to put into practice what they have learned during the presentations.

The registration fee for the course is 950 Euros. This includes the presentation slides as hard copy the CEDA-IADC book “Environmental Aspects of Dredging” edited by Nick Bray published by Taylor and Francis (a €125 value); as well as lunches coffee breaks and participation in the gala dinner.

Teledyne Odom Will Introduce New Product at Hydro 2010
Teledyne Odom Hydrographic will present the latest version of their ES3 portable multibeam – the ES3PT (Precise Time) multibeam echo sounder – at Hydro 2010 in Rostock-Warnemünde Germany to be held on November 2 through 5.

Teledyne Odom Hydrographic and Teledyne Benthos will share exhibit space with EIVA at the show. Francois Leroy of Teledyne Benthos will present a paper titled “Advances in Underwater Imaging and Mapping” during the conference program and Doug Lockhart chief hydrographer of the group will host a workshop session devoted to methods of using the ES3PTmultibeam to best advantage. Teledyne Odom in cooperation with EIVA will show the latest model ES3PT multi-beam and the Real Time Appliance.

In the ES3PT an intelligent interface device connects each of the components in the system. The first priority of the interface box known as the Real Time Appliance (RTA) is to time tag each input to within one millisecond of a reference event. A professional GPS receiver with PPS (pulse per second) output capability is the heart of the system and serves as the time source. The RTA uses high speed deterministic hardware the PPS signal as the time reference and the GPS receiver’s ZDA time output to time stamp each system input with UTC time. Basing all timing off a stable common reference (PPS signal) this architecture all but eliminates latency among the time critical components (sonar navigation motion and heading) of the system.

Hydro 2010 will take place in a venue that includes the conference exhibition hotel boat demonstrations and workshops under one roof ; the Yachthafenresidenz Hohe Düne in Rostock-Warnemünde Germany.

German survey vessel Deneb owned by the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency BSH will visit the show.
