Jan de Nul Launches Hopper Dredge Liev Eiriksson

On September 4, Jan de Nul launched the mega-hopper dredge Liev Eiriksson at Construcciones Navales del Norte shipyard in Sestao, Spain.

The dredge, with a hopper capacity of 46,000 cubic meters, (60,168 cubic yards) is the sister ship of the Cristóbal Colón. The Liev Eiriksson is equipped with two 1300mm-diameter (51-inch) suction pipes with electrically-driven underwater dredge pumps of 6500 kW each.

Annita Boel, wife of Géry Vandewalle, Jan de Nul director, performed the christening with a bottle of red wine, which is customary in Northern Spain.
