On August 18, officials from the Malaysian government accepted an invitation from Integrated Marine Works (IMW) to visit the 225-meter-long HAM 318, which had just arrived to work on the deepening of Port Klangs South Channel (Pintu Gedung).

A&M Dredging Short Courses Increase Expertise

Dr. Robert Randall has scheduled the 39th Dredging Engineering Short Course and Cutter Suction Dredge Simulator Course for January 2010 at Texas A&M University. The short course, to be held January 11 through 15, is designed to educate dredge operators in the technicalities of planning and carrying out dredging operations. A maximum of nine participants will be accepted for the course, and they will receive approximately three continuing education units (CEUs).

A survey of Morro Bay in San Luis Obispo County, California has determined that an invasive species of algae - Caulerpa taxifolia - is not present, clearing the way for dredging to go forward, according to the Army Corps of Engineers.

The Times of India reported on September 1 the Dredging Corporation of Indias Dredge 16 had collided with the bulk carrier MV City near the Haldia Port Complex on August 30. Both vessels sustained damage, and the Dredge 16 was taken into drydock. No one was hurt.
