Phoenix Separators Aid Tower Rocks Manufactured Sand Operation

Tower Rock’s product is washed aggregates for asphalt and concrete mixes. They also make manufactured sand that requires separation of the slurry using Phoenix Model HG HydroCyclone separators.

These separators make a solid/solid separation by particle size. The coarser particles discharge from the bottoms of the cyclones and are dewatered over screens. The fines discharge out the tops of the cyclones with the majority of the water.

At Tower Rock crushed limestone is fed to wash screens that have high pressure spray bars rinsing the material. The slurry of water and fine limestone is collected under the screens and pumped to a mixing tank below the HydroCyclone separators. Another re-circulation pump keeps the level of the mixing tank between a maximum and minimum level for optimum operation. Underflow of the separators discharges onto a Diester dewatering screen while overflow waters go to a settling basin where flocculant is added for rapid settling of any remaining solids before returning clean waters to the adjacent Mississippi River.
