Weeks Buys Ellicott Dredges

Weeks Marine has purchased three incomplete cutterhead dredges at auction. The 28-inch dredges were being built by Ellicott Machine Corporation for the government of Thailand, who defaulted on payment, causing a secure creditor to take possession of and sell the vessels.

Crane Tech Continuing Norris Line

Last February, Henri Tringle and Robert E. Maloy acquired Norris Enterprises, a long reach crane manufacturer and retrofitter in Carrollton, Ohio. The new company, Crane Tech Inc., provides the same equipment and services that Norris provided, which is manufacture and installation of long reach cranes and distribution of attachments and other related equipment.

. Dennis Ziegler has been named president and CEO of GIW Industries, Grovetown, Georgia. He is also president of the Mining Division of KSB, parent company of GIW.

Chinese Language HYPACK Introduced

Coastal Oceanographics and their agent China ORES, announce the release of a Chinese language version of the HYPACK MAX hydrographic survey software packages. The HYPACK MAX package allows users to change the language on the fly without having to re-install the software. Coastal O also announces a large contract to provide software to China.

Manitowoc Acquires Grove

The Manitowoc Company, Inc. has completed acquisition of Grove Investors, Inc. The final purchase price was $271 million, funded by a combination of cash to be paid at a later date, a private offering of senior subordinated notes due 2012, and Manitowoc common stock.

Titan Moves Illinois Branch

Titan Industries has relocated their Elmhurst, Illinois branch to Bolingbrook, Illinois. The new facility is 30 percent larger and is better located to service distributors in the Midwest.

Dredge Will Increase Reservoir Capacity

Officials in Decatur, Illinois have awarded Dredging Supply Company (DSC) a contract to provide a 16-inch cutterhead dredge and two booster units for use in Lake Decatur, the citys 3000-acre water reservoir.

Mobile Pulleys Funds Discontinued by Parent

On Wednesday, July 24, 2002, the owners of Mobile Pulley and Machine Works, informed employees that after the current pay period, ending that week, there would be no more funds available for payroll. All pay and benefits were stopped for all but a skeleton crew of management and shop workers as of July 25 or 26.

Morganza to Gulf Project Approved by Corps

The chief of engineers has approved a $680 million hurricane and environmental protection project in Southeast Louisiana. Lt. Gen. Robert Flowers approved the project on Friday, August 23, 2002, and the announcement was made at the Mississippi River Commission meeting in Houma, Louisiana.

Tan Geotextile Good for Beaches, Arid Places

SI Geosolutions has introduced tan and green versions of its Pyramat turf reinforcement mat. The tan was produced for use in arid and semi-arid regions, beaches and shorelines, and was used in a test application in Nevada in June. The green version was introduced in August 2002.
