Jan De Nul Group, Baulderstone-Hornibrook Win Botany Expansion

Jan De Nul Group has won an AUS$1 billion design/build contract in partnership with its Australian partner Baulderstone-Hornibrook for the expansion of Port Botany Container Terminal in New South Wales, Australia.

The contract involves a 60-hectare expansion of the terminal, and will begin early in 2008, with the first berth complete by 2012.

The new terminal will be between the Brotherson Dock and the parallel runway of the Sydney airport. It will comprise five new berths capable of handling the largest container vessels, and will have a capacity of 1.6 million containers per year.

Dredging will involve eight million cubic meters of sand, and the excavation of deep trenches for installation of the quay walls.
