House Recommends $5.383 billion for Corps Civil Works

The National Waterways Conference, Inc., the nation’s “umbrella” water resources organization representing thousands of water stakeholders around the country, has announced that on Monday evening, the Energy and Water Development Appropriations conferees reached a vital agreement on policy and funding for the FY2006 Army Corps of Engineers program, and that the House of Representatives today passed the agreement by a vote of 399-17.

The Senate is expected to take up the conference report in the near future.

The agreement supports a critically important Civil Works program, recommending $5.383 billion, an amount approximately $1.2 billion over what the President requested. The National Waterways Conference, Inc., applauds the hard work and dedication of the subcommittee leaders, Sen. Pete Domenici (R-NM), Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), Congr. David Hobson (R-OH) and Congr. Pete Viscloskey (D-IN) in facilitating the compromises necessary to get the FY2006 appropriations agreement finalized. Sen. Thad Cochran and Sen. Robert Byrd as well Congr. Jerry Lewis and Congr. David Obey also contributed by approving the substantial increase in funding.
