Dredging Consortium Wins Qatar Contract

Royal Boskalis Westminster nv has acquired a large contract for the creation of a new platform for the international airport of Doha, Qatar. This project will be executed in the next 24 months by a consortium of four dredging companies, composed of Qatar Dredging Company, Boskalis, Dredging International and Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company.

The construction of the platform will require 60 million cubic meters of sand to be mined from sea. The total contract value amounts to 1.53 billion Qatari Ryal (€ 337 million). The Boskalis share is approximately 30 percent. The four partners in the consortium will deploy in total 11 large cutter suction dredgers and trailing suction hopper dredgers on the project.

This project in Qatar is one of a series of large scale land reclamation projects on the global market for maritime infrastructure. This market is driven by long term factors, such as world population growth and growth of the world economy and the international trading volume.
