Hart Crowser Hires Two in New Jersey
Douglas Gaffney, P.E has joined Hart Crowser as a senior coastal engineer in the company’s New Jersey office, bringing 18 years of marine environmental and coastal engineering experience to Hart Crowser.
He has extensive management and consulting experience in coastal engineering planning, design, permitting, dredging, dewatering, environmental investigation and restoration. Most recently, Gaffney worked as a consultant on the East Coast. His diverse background includes work for the United States Army Corps of Engineers, where he was a senior coastal project manager on shore protection and environmental restoration projects, and as an engineer for SI Corporation, a manufacturer of geotextile tubes.
Gaffney is an accomplished speaker and author, and has published numerous technical publications on the topics of dredged material dewatering and geotextile applications in the marine environment.
Gaffney is president of the Northeast Shore and Beach Preservation Association, and serves on the board of directors of the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association, the Beach and Shoreline Technology Section of the International Erosion Control Association, and the Coasts, Oceans, Ports and Rivers Institute (COPRA) of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Gaffney holds a B.S. in Marine Engineering from the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, New York and an M.S. in Marine Studies from the University of Delaware, Newark, Delaware.
He will be responsible for the management of engineering projects in Hart Crowser’s Jersey City, New Jersey office.
Nick Lewis is the new operations manager of Hart Crowser’s New Jersey office. Lewis, who has a long-standing association with the company on the client side, brings extensive management and environmental regulatory experience to the position, and will focus on expanding the company's Northeast market.
Most recently chief operating officer of Prezant Associates, Lewis’s strong regulatory background includes work with the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Utah, California and Alaska on environmental, facility management, civil works, growth management, industrial, transportation, energy and regulatory issues. Prior positions include regional manager of government services business development for IT Corporation; general manager of Waste Management Incorporated, vice president of Business Development for URS Corporation; chairman and CEO of the state of Washington Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council, and assistant director of the state of Washington office of financial management.
Lewis holds bachelors and masters degrees in political science from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon and the University of Washington.
