EPA Awards Tier III Emissions Compliance Certification to Wärtsilä 34DF Engines
Wärtsilä’s 34DF Engine
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded its first Category 3 Tier III certificates of emissions compliance to technology group Wärtsilä Corporation for the Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel engine family.
To comply with EPA emission standards for engines in gas mode operation, the engine is equipped with a continuous nitrogen oxide measuring and monitoring system to verify emissions compliance within Nitrogen Oxide Emission Control areas (NECA). The Category 3 award is specifically for engines with a displacement per cylinder of more than 30 litres.
The engine also can be run using diesel fuel, and is manufactured in configurations of 6 to 16 cylinders with a power range of 2880 to 8000kW.
The EPA certificates cover all 34DF engines built from now until the end of 2017.
