Elastec Booms Will Contain, Burn and Disperse Spilled Oil

Elastec/American Marine has shipped 48,350 feet (9.14 miles) of a specialized containment boom to assist in containing spilled oil from the Deepwater Horizon drilling platform in the Gulf of Mexico.

The patented Hydro-Fire® Boom system is a state-of-the-art inflatable fire resistant, water cooled boom (see illustration) developed to contain surface oil and burn it offshore, saving destruction of critical environmentally-sensitive shoreline habitats.

Elastec/American Marine CEO Donnie Wilson and other employees assisted BP PLC and the United States Coast Guard with a test burn on Wednesday, April 28 that was successful, and as of May 5 had six more systems en route, with additional burns scheduled to begin the same week.
The company is also sending their patented NeatSweep® System for applying dispersants. NeatSweep collects a broad swath of oil, funneling the slick into a narrow band where, dispersant is applied at full concentration.
Other Elastec/American Marine personnel on site are Vice President Jeff Cantrell, Shon Mosier, Charlie Storey and Alex Smith.

The company has locations in Carmi, Illinois and Cocoa, Florida.
