Bay Planning Conference Set for May 24

The Bay Planning Coalition will hold its 18th Annual San Francisco Bay Decisionmakers Conference on Tuesday, May 24 at the Hotel Nikko San Francisco, 222 Mason Street (at the Powell BART Station.)

The event is sponsored by stakeholders Great Lakes Dredge & Dock, The Dutra Group, the Port of Oakland, Cargill Salt, the Port of Stockton, URS and others.

The day begins with registration at 7:30 a.m. The program begins at 8 with an address by a representative of the governor of California. The first session will review the 20-year history of the Coalition and business and environmental climate of the Bay area.

The second session includes a case study of the Delta region, including navigation, dredging and disposal, levee rehabilitation, wildlife, water quality and water supply. “From congestion to Capacity” will deal with the problem of port congestion and effects on cargo handling capacity. A panel will discuss the topic of goods movement from a variety of perspectives, referring to the recently-published goods Movement Plan.

The luncheon keynote speaker is Tom Campbell, director of the California Department of Finance. BG Joseph Schroedel, commander of the South Pacific Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will present the Frank C. Boerger Award.

The meeting will adjourn at 4:30 p.m.
