Panama Canal Board Considers New Lock

Panamá, May 30, 2000 - During a special board meeting today, the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) Board of Directors reviewed the status of expansion studies involving a third set of locks, as well as medium-and long-term Canal water needs.

The ACP Board of Directors asked for more thorough analysis of the current studies, and called for widespread national and international consultations regarding this project, which is important to the development of the Canal and the country. This process would include talks with the Canal´s Advisory Board and the international maritime community.
