South African Hydro Society Plans First Conference

The Hydrographic Society of South Africa will hold the first African Hydro Conference in Cape Town November 10 through 12, 2009.

The conference will be presented in conjunction with the International Federation of Hydrographic Societies (IFHS).
The venue is Cape Peninsula University of Technology’s Cape Town Hotel School. The conference, with the theme Enhancing Global Capacity, will include 40 technical papers and an exhibition, in addition to technical workshops and boat demonstrations.

Main topics include Positioning, Geophysical, Metocean, Education & Standards, Data Management, Survey Platforms, Coastal Mapping, Tides and Currents, Marine Environments, Hydrography for Marine Renewables, and Case Studies.
The conference banquet on Wednesday, November 11, will be held at the Moyo Restaurant at the Spier Wine Estate. The restaurant is in the form of bedouin tents and gazebos placed throughout the garden, creating a setting similar to a nomadic African village.
