On March 8 at approximately 2 p.m. local time, the container vessel MSC Joanna ran into the hopper dredge W.D. Fairway in Tianjin, China.

Royal Boskalis Westminster nv, owner of the dredge, reported that there were no personal injuries, that the vessel was stable and the crew on board.

The Fairway is a trailing suction hopper dredge with a capacity of 35,508 cubic meters.

On March 12, Boskalis announced that that the damage to the W.D. Fairway was considerable and that the ship would be out of action for the remainder of 2007. Boskalis is insured for the damage to the ship.

The unavailability of the W.D. Fairway will lead to a loss of turnover for the rest of 2007 of approximately € 25 to 30 million (approximately two percent of group turnover). The negative impact on the result before taxation (EBIT) for 2007 will be approximately € 5 to 7 million on balance.

A company news release stated that Boskalis does not expect any further losses pursuant to ongoing contracts and commitments.
