WEDA to Visit Houston Channel Deepening

The annual meeting of the Western Dredging Association will include a field trip to visit portions of the Houston Ship Channel Deepening project. To be held in Houston, June 24 – 28, the meeting will include technical papers, an exhibition, and social functions. It is the 21st annual meeting of the organization.

Texas A&M University will hold their 33rd dredging seminar in conjunction with the meeting, on June 25. Technical papers for both events will focus on specific dredging projects, giving attendees a broad view of equipment and techniques in use.

In keeping with concerns of the general public about the environment, a number of talks will be on beneficial use of dredged material and handling of contaminated dredged material. Wednesday morning, June 27, will be given over entirely to talks on the Palos Verdes shelf pilot capping, a solution to the presence of massive amounts of DDT’s off the coast of Southern California.

The conference will begin on Sunday with the 9th Annual George Watts Golf tournament at the Longwood Golf Club, Cypress, Texas, coordinated by Greg Hartman. The opening reception will be held that evening at the Windham Garden Greenspoint Hotel in Houston.
