The Rohr-Idreco ISD350-M dredge.
Rohr-Idreco delivered an ISD350-M dredge to the Cemex plan in Lüttow, Germany in July. The dredge has an IDP350 Idreco dredge pump and replaced its existing, aging dredge. The bigger pump will reach the same amount of production at a lower pump rpm. Rohr-Idreco said this reduces wear with less energy consumption.
Dredge development was a joint collaboration between Joachim Wunder, regional manager Aggregates Hamburg, the Rohr-Idreco workshop in Doetinchem, the Netherlands, and CEO Wim Snippe and Sales Manager Joachim Seiter. The collaboration made improvements in the plant software, which could better control energy costs. A flexible pipeline and mounted GPS control system also made the dredge more efficient.
Rohr-Idreco delivered also an ISD300-M dredge to Quartz de Haguenau SARL in Batzendorg, France. The portable ISD300-M equipped with an in-board dredge pump with double curved vanes can be transported by trucks. The dredge also has a spherical passage of 180mm, and the dredge pump is frequency driven by an electric motor with a power of 250 kW.
UNITED KINGDOM AND SWEDEN
Boskalis will build a five-kilometer (3.12-mile) breakwater in Clacton-on-Sea between Clacton Pier and Holland Haven for Tendring District Council. The breakwater will be 23 stone groins with sand fill in between to create beaches. Boskalis will execute the project through the VBA JV Ltd. (a consortium of Volker Stevin, Boskalis Westminster and Atkins). Two medium-sized trailing suction hopper dredgers will be deployed on this project, with all the stone work being performed by dry equipment.Work is scheduled to begin this summer and will be completed in late 2015.
In Sweden, a joint venture between Boskalis and Züblin Scandinavia AB has won a contract from Trafikverket Göteborg for the design and construction of the Marieholm Tunnel and construction of quay walls in the city of Gothenburg. Boskalis will dredge a trench with a depth of around 20 meters (66 feet), into which the tunnel will be submerged. Sand will be placed beneath and alongside the submerged tunnel and a layer of rubble will protect the tunnel roof.
HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM
Phase Two of the Soai Rap dredging project celebrated its completion on June 21. The project will allow larger vessels to navigate the new channel and ease access to Hiep Phuoc Port and other ports along the Saigon River.
During the second phase of the project, dredging deepened 54 kilometers (34 miles) of the Soai Rap riverbed to 9.5 meters (31 feet). Now work will focus on technical infrastructure investments, connecting inner waterways and national roadways. Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai wants the country to become a strong maritime country by 2020. The city will study the third phase of dredging at the channel to a depth of 11.5 meters (38 feet) to accommodate even larger draft vessels.

DEME will use trailing suction hopper dredge Artevelde in the Belgian Fishing for Litter project. Garbage and other waste on the bottom of the ocean often causes disruptions to dredging during stormy weather. Artevelde, which dredges in Belgian waters and ports, will dictate the involvement of other dredges after an evaluation at six months. The plastic wood collected from sea will be manufactured in benches in Houthalen, Beligum
DEME has joined the larger program working toward a waste free North Sea, launched in 2012 by the Foundation for the Development of Sustainable Fisheries and Waste Free Oceans.
HULHMALE, THE MALDIVES
Dredge International NV of Belgium, won a $50M contract award on June 18 from the Housing Development Corporation of Hulhumalé in the Maldives for phase two of a dredging and reclamation project, covering 240 hectares of land. It is estimated that the project will be completed by December 2015.
Van Oord has acquired UK marine civil contractor J.T. Mackley & Co. Ltd. to strengthen its position in the U.K. flood defense and coastal construction markets. Van Oord and J.T. Mackley & Co. Ltd. have been working together for more than a decade. J.T. Mackley & Co. Ltd. will continue business under its own name and will continue to be run by the existing management and staff.

Van Oord began the second phase of dredging in July at the Port of Koper, Slovenia. The second phase will deepen the container terminal to 14 meters (45.8 feet), after Van Oord deepened the access channel and northern section of Basin I within the harbor area.
Van Oord dredge Drava Costa Dorada will dredge until the end of August. Luka Koper, which runs the port, installed a three-kilometer (1.9-mile) pipeline to pump the dredged sediment.
The trailing suction hopper dredge was acquired in April 2014 along with subsidiary Dravo S.A. in Madrid, Spain. The work began in mid-July with a backhoe dredge working along the container shore. In June, Van Oord completed phase one of the project, which removed 230,000 cubic meters (about 300,800 cubic yards) of sediment for €2.48M (about $3.78M).
BAM International completed the new port in Aqaba, Jordan.
BAM International completed the construction of the new port in Aqaba, Jordan in June for the Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC). The project included reclamation work and dredging 800,000 cubic meters (1.5 million cubic yards) of sediment.
With Jordanian joint venture partner MAG, BAM designed and constructed four new berths (in total approximately 800 meters , about 2,600 feet, of quay wall), revetment works, a breakwater, marine services, pontoons and a slip way. The €65 million (about $88M) contract also included the construction of two intake pipes and one outfall pipe.
Last year BAM completed the container terminal for ADC en APMT in Aqaba, and the company is currently building the Aqaba New Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal, eighteen kilometers south of Aqaba for ADC.
Transnet National Port Authority Supply Chain General Manager Ncumisa Nikanunu christens the dredge Italeni.
The South African company Transnet National Port Authority (TNPA) named its 750-cubic meter (about 980-cubic-yard) grab hopper dredge Italeni, during a special ceremony hosted by IHC Merwede on June 18. TNPA’s Supply Chain General Manager Ncumisa Nkanunu, performed the ceremony in the shipyard of IHC Merwede’s partner, MTG Dolphin, in Varna, Bulgaria.
The contract for the dredge was signed on January 29, 2013 and left for Durban, South Africa in June 2014. Italeni will replace Crane, which was recently equipped with a new crane. The equipment will be transferred to Italeni after the arrival in South Africa. The new dredge has 62-meter (203-foot) length and a digging depth of 25 meters (82 feet).
The dredge is named after the battle of Italeni that took place near the Itala Mountains, where the Zulu King Dingane defeated the Voortrekkers in 1838.
IHC Merwede also delivered trailing suction hopper dredge Isandlwana to TNPA in 2010.

Hall Contracting was awarded a contract to create a new approach for cargo ships at the Port of Brisbane. Managing Director Cameron Hall said the Port of Brisbane is Australia’s fastest growing container ports and Queensland’s largest general cargo port. He said more than 450,000 cubic meters (about 588,500 cubic yards) of sediment will be removed from the Brisbane River, for cargo ships at berths 12 and 13. For the job, Hall Contracting purchased the 750mm cutter suction dredge Amity. It can dredge to 18 meters (59 feet) and has previously done work in the Port of Brisbane.
SeaBed Services’ IMS Model 7012 HP Versi- Dredge working in Tromøy Island in Norway.
SeaBed Services, a Norwegian dredging company that specializes in the removal and cleansing of heavily contaminated sediment from seabeds, purchased an IMS Model 7012 HP Versi-Dredge for dredging in marinas, ports and fjords in Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
SeaBed purchased the dredge with a supplementary IMS Environmental Plus cutterhead and an elongated turbidity shroud for dredging contaminated sediment. IMS said the starwheel drive self-propulsion system allows the dredge to operate in areas where cables are not practical because of boat traffic and narrow docks.
The portable dredge was trucked to Tromøy Island for its first job, dredging an inlet and marina where compact shell sand had accumulated for more than 1,000 years. The dredge completed the job in less than one week, pumping the hard shell sand to a makeshift dewatering pond half a kilometer away.
In addition to dredging silt, sand and contaminated sediments in ports and marinas, SeaBed Services also aims to use the 7012 HP for environmental remediation projects such as swamps in nature reserves and eutrophic lakes that need deepening.
A consortium including Boskalis, Van Oord, Hyundai, Samsung and Penta Ocean was awarded work for the expansion of the Singapore Tuas Mega Port development. Jurong Town Corporation awarded the reclamation project for Tuas Finger One to the consortium. The total contract value is SGD 960 million, and the combined Boskalis / Van Oord share is approximately EUR 100 million (about $135M). It is expected that the majority of the 24.5 million cubic meters (about 32 million cubic yards) of sand required for this project will be supplied by long distance bulk carriers. In addition to the land reclamation work, the consortium will dredge for and construct a 3.4-kilometer (2.11-mile) quay wall. Work is set to start by August and will last until late 2018.Edit Module
