Port of Los Angeles Container Volumes Increase 5.5 Percent in July

The Port of Los Angeles has released its July 2012 cargo volumes. Overall volumes increased 5.53 percent compared to July 2011. Imports increased by 3.97 percent, from 357,667 twenty-foot equivalent (TEU) containers in July 2011 to 371,859 TEUs this July. Exports increased a slight .27 percent, from 165,135 TEUs in July 2011 to 165,581 TEUs in July 2012.

Combined, total loaded imports and exports for July increased 2.8 percent, from 522,802 TEUs last July to 537,440 TEUs in July 2012. Factoring in empties, which increased 14.1 percent year over year, overall July 2012 volumes (726,375 TEUs) increased 5.53 percent compared to July 2011 (688,325 TEUs). For the first seven months of 2012, overall container volumes have increased 6.3 percent (4,736,579 TEUs) compared to the same period in 2011 (4,455,552 TEUs).
