CEDA Dredging Days to be in Abu Dhabi
The conference theme of “Virtue, Venture and Vision’’ views dredging not as a separate exercise, but part of the whole planning and execution process.
“Virtue” is environmental awareness and concern. Successful developments take account of environmental factors at the planning stage, building these into innovative project design. Working with nature rather than attempting to impose on it allows the achievement of long-term sustainable solutions.
“Venture” is the development of the coast for commercial purposes benefiting the local and regional economy.
“Vision” is the long term planning for aesthetic reasons creating a sustainable future. The aim is to support and delight those dependent on the coastal zone.
The main conference topics will be Infrastructure and Trade Development and Dredging for the Offshore Oil and Gas Industry. Paper abstracts were approved in June, and include a broad program describing dredging in the Middle East and throughout the world. These include technical and environmental challenges and how these have been overcome.
A technical visit will allow delegates to view some of the local projects, in the academic session some of the latest research in the dredging field will be presented.
Information on the conference is available from Sylvia Minten at the Conference Secretariat, phone: +31 6 1660 3947; e-mail email@example.com; or on the conference Web site www.cedaconferences.org/dredgingdays2012.
The block of rooms reserved for attendees by the hotel will be available until November 13.
CEDA Dredging Days 2012 will be preceded by the CEDA-IADC Training Course Environmental Aspects of Dredging on December 10 and 11 at the same venue. Those participating in both events will receive a 10 percent discount on both registration fees.
IADC has arranged a dinner in the desert at Bab Al Shams Desert Resort and Spa at the close of the training course on December 11. Attendees will experience a drive through the desert in a luxury coach, a view of the spectacular sunset, and dinner at an authentic Arabian restaurant accompanied by a performance that includes falcons, camels, horses, singers, music and belly dancers. Detailed information about the training course and special evening is on: www.dredging.org or www.iadc-dredging.com.
The National Marine Dredging Company of Abu Dhabi is sponsoring both events. Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam is a major supporter of Dredging Days and other CEDA events, as is Gulf Cobla of Dubai.
