WODCON 16 Held in Malaysia

WODCON XVI, co-hosted by the Port of Klang Authority Malaysia and the Eastern Dredging Association (EADA) drew more than 236 delegates and accompanying persons. Held on April 2 through 5 at the Hotel Shangri-la in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the four-day conference and exhibition included more than 60 technical papers on dredging. There were 23 exhibitors.

In his opening address, the Hon. Minister of Transport Malaysia, Dato Seri Dr. Ling Liong Sik said that he was glad to note that the dredging organizations were working hand in hand with government authorities to balance the social, economic and environmental aspects of the dredging projects. Ir. Ruwert Wurpts, president of CEDA, and Lawrence Patella, executive director of WEDA commended the organizing committee for a job well done.

One of the highlights of the Congress was the Environmental Day, where papers relating to dredging and the environment were discussed.

The IADC (International Association of Dredging Companies) best paper award was presented to Malaysian engineer Jasmine Ambrose, who co-wrote a paper with Rajah M.N. on “Displacement Filling at Lumut – a Case Study.”

The DCA (Dredging Contractors of America) award was presented to Heggelar O.W.J. Ten, P.M. Vercruijsse and S.A. Medeima for their paper “On the Hoisting of Suction Pipe Constructions – A Dynamic Motion Analysis.”
