Moscow, Russia, Conference on Hydraulic Engineering Structures of Water Transport, February 7-8, 2018

A two-day conference February 7 and 8, entitled “Hydraulic Engineering Structures of Water Transport” took place at the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Moscow, Russia. The Congress was organized by PortNews IAA, which is Russia’s leading and most widely read media in the field of sea and river transport. The event also included the 5th International Dredging Forum and the 1st Technical Conference “Modern Solutions for Hydraulic Engineering.” Infrastructure developments such as the construction of port facilities and hydraulic engineering structures are a major driver of the Russian economy. For that reason, the conference program focused on modern technologies for dredging and hydro-technical works. Speakers and delegates discussed international projects and the specifics of dredging works, as well as the construction of specialized fleet and equipment.

Congress partners included FSUE Rosmorport and the International Association of Dredging Companies (IADC) and DAMEN Shipyards Group, which are general sponsors of the conference. IADC’s Secretary General René Kolman introduced Dredging for Sustainable Infrastructure, a new publication by the Central Dredging Association (CEDA) and IADC due to be published in the spring of this year. VaninoTransUgol JSC presented one of its projects, the construction of the coal terminal in the Muchke Bay, located approximately 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) northeast of Vanino in the Khabarovsk region of Russia. The project anticipates work on the construction of a transshipment terminal, development of transport infrastructure, power and water supply networks and dredging. Once fully completed, the facility will be able to handle 24 million tons of coal per year.

The event was also supported by the Russian Federation Transport Ministry, Russian Federation Ministry of Industry and Trade, Glavgosexpertiza of Russia, and the Federal Agency for Water Resources.
