Furuno’s Satellite Compass.

Furuno has added two new products, SC70 and SC130, to its Satellite Compass to meet and exceed standards for accuracy. The SC70 has a heading accuracy of .4 degrees and a speed accuracy of .02 knots. The SC130 has the same speed accuracy with a heading accuracy of .25 degrees. Both units provide data for position, Speed Over Ground (SOG), Course Over Ground (COG), Rate Of Turn (ROT) and 3-axis speed. The units also have a startup time of 90 seconds and a follow-up rate of 40 degrees per second.

Using an Ethernet connection, both the SC70 and SC130 can be integrated into existing shipboard networks and both have NMEA2000 and multiple NMEA0183 ports to network to other products. When used with Furuno Fish Finders the units provide heaving compensation capability, and when used with Sonar, pitch and roll compensation is added.

The SC70 and SC130 are both approved as Transmitting Heading Devices (THD) and IMO GPS for External Position Fixing Sensor (EPFS). The SC70 has an MSRP of $4,595 and the SC130 has an MSRP of $10,395.
