Contract Awarded for Phase II of Singapore Port
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has awarded a contract for its port development project Tuas Terminal Phase II in Singapore. The award went to a consortium of Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V., Penta Ocean Construction Company and Hyundai Engineering & Construction Company. The contract value is approximately SGD 1.46 billion ($1.11 billion) and terms should be finalized right after the Chinese New Year.
The Tuas Terminal Phase II development includes the design and construction of 387 hectares (956 acres) of land reclamation work that will be within 9.1 kilometer (5.6 miles) of 30 meter (98 feet) high caisson walls.
Boskalis, which is receiving about 30 percent of the project award, will dredge the port basin and access channel, and a sandkey, using the sand to create new land. The company will use a medium-sized trailing suction hopper dredge, grab and backhoe dredges and a long-distance bulk carriers. Â The project is expected to take nine years with a tentative completion in 2027.
