FUNDING AGREEMENT SIGNED FOR LAKE WORTH INLET DREDGING

On December 31 the port and the Florida Department of Transportation joined the Corps of Engineers to deal with shoaling in the Lake Worth Inlet in Palm Beach County Florida with an emergency dredging project. The Port of Palm Beach had been under draft restrictions since September 2014.

The Corps performed emergency dredging in October but shoaling remains.

Florida DOT has been working with the Port of Palm Beach to secure funding for the project. The port board of commissioners voted to approve a Joint Participation Agreement with FDOT in December after learning the port had received a permit from the Corps to begin sand removal. Dredging began at the end of December and January 13 the port reported that the inlet was clear of shoaling.
